This event has ended.

What defines the creativity of Japanese fashion? What latent cultural factors influence it? Through clothing, photograph, film, and more, this exhibition offers an overview of the world-renowned uniqueness of Japanese fashion, from leading contemporary designers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo, to those searching for a “year zero” of fashion through the construction of new relationships between clothing and people. Japan’s traditional culture of dress helped to fully develop the talents of a generation of designers on the cutting-edge of fashion. Focusing on the collection of Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI), this exhibition reexamines the new potential of skills used by Kyoto-based ateliers and artisans.
