Takashi Iga “Fuji Mountain – New”
Fuji Photo Salon Osaka
This event has ended.
Mt. Fuji, a symbol of Japan, has been loved and revered since ancient times. Possible etymologies for its name include the Ainu word “Funchi,” meaning “fire mountain,” the Malay term “Puty” for “white,” and the Chinese concept of immortality, referred to as “Fushi.” Among several explanations, the one that resonates most with photographer Takashi Iga is the Japanese word “Fuji,” which literally means “no two,” suggesting that Mt. Fuji is the only mountain of its kind. To Iga, who has climbed many summits as part of his Shugendo spiritual training and photographed Mt. Fuji numerous times, this mountain is truly one of a kind. His powerful images convey both the hardship and frightening severity of this mountain, as well as its beauty evoking the earth and the cosmos.
