poster for Yumi Karasumaru “Facing Histories”

This event has ended.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings over Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the end of WWⅡ. Yumi faces the catastrophe of these bombings, looking back on Japanese history as well as family and personal histories around the War. Yumi has been painting “Atomic Series” since 1995. She started painting “Family Series” in the 90’s and “Teenager Series” and “Tokyo Landscape Series” in 2000, while she viewed Japan from afar. Living in Italy allows her to confront the differences in culture and mentality between the two countries. Through this she expresses her worries, sorrows and love for her birthplace, Japan. In this exhibition she presents over 100 tableaux and drawings.
