Lorenzo Fernandez is an emerging Spanish artist skilfully combining both traditional and contemporary techniques to challenge the conventional notion of Realist painting. His realistic rendering of everyday objects, their colors and textures, as well as his subtle lighting and shading, are so well developed that it is difficult at first to determine whether his works are paintings or photographs. Remarkably, the artist does not use any technical means to transfer a photographic image onto a panel. His works are not perfect reproductions of objective reality, but pictorial illusions created through the use of meticulously delicate brushwork and carefully constructed composition. The artist’s extraordinary technical mastery produces sublime images of everyday objects that cannot be achieved by photography.
