This event has ended.
The Japanese arts of metalwork, lacquerware and sculpture reached their peak in the late Edo and Meiji periods. The peaceful times of the Edo era saw an increase in the enjoyment of adorning oneself, with a heightened interest in well-designed accessories such as hair ornaments, swords and seal cases while the Meiji era presented new accessories such as pocket watches, “Obi-dome” sash clips and rings. This exhibition showcases a wide range of decorative arts produced in the Edo and Meiji periods.
