Using approaches such as “pedestal sculpture,” designed to raise the pedestal used to display sculpture to the level of an artwork, and “display space sculpture,” in which a space is presented as an artwork, German-based artist Yuji Takeoka (born in Kyoto in 1946) produces work that deals with the way “things” and “spaces” are shown. This exhibition marks the first retrospective of his work ever held in Japan.
