This event has ended.

After receiving a BFA from the Department of Sculpture at Tama Art University in Tokyo in 1994, Miyuki Yokomizo has extensively exhibited numerous installation works using a variety of materials both domestically and internationally. In the past few years she has mainly created two-dimensional works. However, in this exhibition, her new three-dimensional works Torso and wrapped will be shown. In these pieces the essence of her concept can be glimpsed, which she finally discovered after lengthy exploration of the meaning of her own use of different kind of materials (plastic, crystal, water, beads, salt crystals and gold leaf) Yokomizo attempts to express the luminosity that lies within the darkness, and the light that is within light. To recreate this expression of light, she was drawn to materials which collect, reflect and hold light. “Torso” reflects hard light without via aluminum, and “wrapped” produces a soft inner light by its incorporation of silver leaf. Her new works in the Dwell exhibit capture the passage of time which is expressed in faint light and invites the viewer to become lost in the evanescent, prayer-like solemnity of light.
