Kazutoshi Kondo “When It Was Awaji ‘Island’”
Canon Gallery Umeda
This event has ended.
It has been thirty years since Onaruto Bridge, a suspension bridge that connects Awaji Island and Shikoku was opened. This shift in access from sea routes to land routes has had a large impact on life on the island and the surrounding scenery. The changes to the island have since been accelerated further by the development of the Akashi Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge seventeen years ago, linking Awaji Island to the mainland of Honshu.
This photography exhibition by Kazutoshi Kondo introduces Awaji in its purest state as an island before it was connected by bridges - when ships were the main form of transport and the flow of time felt much slower.
