Fleeing the Fukushima nuclear accident in March 2011, Emi Ichikawa’s daughter evacuated to her mother’s care shortly before the birth of her first child. Each day mother and daughter walked out to a single willow tree together, an exercise that inspired these photographs dealing with the theme of new life born after another’s death.
