The Work of Taikichi Irie: A Retrospective
Irie Taikichi Memorial Museum of Photography Nara City
This event has ended.
Taikichi Irie spent half a century taking pictures of the Yamatoji area of Nara Prefecture, producing everything from snapshots to photographs of landscapes, Buddhist statues, and the plants and flowers described in the Manyoshu collection of ancient Japanese poetry. His work remains popular even after his death. 2015 marks the 110th anniversary of Irie’s birth, and in October the photo book “The Work of Taikichi Irie: A Retrospective” was published. With this collection as a point of reference, this exhibition traces the trajectory of Irie’s career, showing the changes in his subject matter and the perspectives through which he approached them.
