The artist Tomioka Tessai interacted with cultured persons from a young age, giving him a deep familiarity with the world of sencha tea and the tea ceremony. “Tessai no Kigan” (Tessai’s Crafts) are a collection of tea implements created by master craftsmen and hand painted by Tessai himself, as well as his own ceramic works. These crafts reflect Tessai’s outstanding artistic perception and his profound erudition.
