Tomizo Tomoda “Lequio= Living Traditonal Culture in Ryukyu”
Canon Gallery Umeda
This event has ended.
Some 130 years ago, Lequio (Ryukyu) existed as an independent country, quietly absorbing other cultures while developing its own. This traditional culture lives on today in its arts and crafts, which include kumidori stage performances, bashofu textiles, shuriori weavings, sanshin music, and metalwork. Tomizo Tomoda has spent two and a half years photographing and documenting these works so that parts of this culture might be better known.
