From traditional and formal large ceremonies to local celebrations, festivals across Japan represent the country’s culture. How do you capture not only the special traits and atmospheres of these events, but also the moments that will remain in the memories of their participants? Last year 9,395 pictures taken with digital cameras and smartphones were submitted in this Kitamura Camera contest aiming to preserve traditions for future generations. Seventy-one outstanding selections are presented here, including winners of the grand prix, the special prize, the runner-up special prize, and the Club Tourism prize.
