A solo exhibition by contemporary German artist Thomas Neumann, presenting large-scale work taken from “The Japanese Series,” which was published last October. Inspired by traditional Japanese ink painting, the ‘Mori’ series depicts forested mountains, valleys, and vegetation in a marvellously expressive monochromatic gradation from white to gray and gray to black, reminiscent of ink wash painting. The ‘Ishi’ series zooms in on the animistic worldview, taking it up to macro scale. Portrayed in vivid hues, it beckons our imaginations toward depths of time not apparent on the rocks’ surfaces but lurking inside.
