This event has ended.

Rengatsu Otagaki (1791–1875) was a monk, poet, and ceramicst during the late-Edo and early Meiji periods who profoundly influenced the major bujinga (literati) painter Tessai Tomioka (1836–1924). Rengatsu offered Tessai sanctuary and support during a turbulent era, contributing to his growth as an artist. This exhibition commemorating the 180th anniversary of Tessai’s birth in 2016 spotlights Rengatsu and the young Tessai, displaying the paintings, poetry, and pottery they created together.
