This event has ended.

Deer, like any other animal of the natural world, fill their stomachs, empty their bowels and produce children. But what makes the deer from Nara and Miyajima different from other wild animals is the fact that they live within an urban environment. In Nara deigned as vehicles of the god of Kasuga Taisha Shrine and protected as special natural monuments. While in Miyajima deer are the darlings of tourists. However outside of these two districts deer are seen as farm animals or pests which damage trees and therefore many local authorities regulate their numbers. In this way 360,000 deer are culled every year. In this way the border between pet and pest is determined by human whim. But the deer shown here reach beyond this border, occupying a town in which the presence of humans slowly depletes.
