World renowned contemporary artist and photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto is known for his iconic works “Dioramas”, “Theaters” and “Seascapes.” In addition to being a serious collector of antique art pieces, Sugimoto has delved into the world of Japanese fine arts, with works such as “Sea of Buddha” which depict the “Sanjusangendo” and its 1001 statues of Kannon.
This exhibition unveils historic art items from Sugimoto’s own collection, with antique western pieces dating from the Heian Era (794-1185) and Edo Period (1603-1868) and rare Showa pieces that give visitors an insight into the depth of an artist who is exploring beyond the borders of contemporary art.
