Yoji Yamada and Tadanori Yokoo in Film

The artist Tadanori Yokoo (b. 1936) has created posters and title designs for the films by the major postwar director Yoji Yamada (b. 1931), including “Tokyo Kazoku” (Tokyo Family, 2013) and “Kazoku wa Tsurai yo” (It’s Tough Being a Family, 2016). This exhibition compares and contrasts the works of these two creators active in very different genres and styles, shedding light on their main characters and themes, which include prayers for family, hope, and the wishes of many people.
