poster for Asami Kiyokawa Exhibition

This event has ended.

Asami Kiyokawa creates original worlds in her embroidered works incorporating portrait photography, copies of her favorite books, and other unique items. In late 2016 she directed the title footage and heroine poster art for the NHK TV drama Beppin-san, envisioning the concept of “stitching together a life” with thread and cloth.
Her first solo exhibition in Kyoto features new works from the major series “Bijo Saishu” (Beautiful Woman Collection) and “Tokyo Monster,” as well as the embroidered drawings of “Watashitachi no Ohanashi” (Our Story), a collection of embroidered drawings on 100 pages from books that have left impressions upon her; Also on display are images from “I:I,” for which Kiyokawa inverted photos from her own Instagram feed from negative to positive to express the complexity of memory and psychological influences; and finally, works from “Beppin-san” are also exhibited.
