With its castle towns, temples, farming and fishing villages, and rich natural environment, Wakayama Prefecture (once known as Kinokuni) is the birthplace of many people who have gone on to become famous across Japan. Examples include monks such as Shonin Tokuhon, warriors of the Kishu Tokugawa clan including Yorinobu Tokugawa, and prominent doctors and scholars such as Seishu Hanaoka and Norinaga Motoori. This exhibition showcases some of Wakayama’s most outstanding citizens through portraits (images) and written records (words). Revisit the lives and accomplishments of these leaders celebrated in textbooks.
