This event has ended.

Kashiki-gata are wooden molds used to give Japanese sweets and snacks such as rakugan sugar candies their decorative shapes. Designs include flowers and plants like plums or lotuses, seasonal motifs, and auspicious symbols such as cranes, turtles, and treasure ships. Each kashiki-gata is carved with prayers for happiness in mind. Rakugan and other sweets given as gifts and for special occasions were especially highly valued before the era of refrigeration. This spring exhibition features 220 examples of kashiki-gata.
