This event has ended.

“My first photo shoot with a large pinhole camera that I got hold of in 1988 happened to be in one of most important sacred sites of Japan.” It has been told since ancient times that 8 million deities dwell in the sacred areas of Japan; in Shinto it is believed that the spirits of the gods reside in the mountains, rivers, trees, in every aspect of nature. Japan is surrounded by the sea, so the sun rises from the sea and sets into the sea. For agriculture, the fishing industry and every aspect of people’s lives, the sun has been revered as the most important deity. This exhibition presents work capturing the sun, which is part of the scenery of Japan.

* This exhibition is part of KG+, Kyotographie’s satellite event.
