Fascinated by the concept of intimacy in Japan, Zaza created a documentary inside love hotels. As an outsider looking in, she aimed to capture its innate contradictions. Her physical presence yet inability to communicate with her subjects, creates a tension so palpable between her and the visitors she portrays, it echoes through in her imagery. Reflecting the ambiguous perceptions of intimacy, the photo series captures a frail sense of alienation and poignancy at the same time.
