Hayato Nishimura’s photography focuses on the traces of the researcher’s thought processes. For this series, blackboards used by researchers while debating ideas were photographed. Filled with mathematical formulas and figures, the blackboards do not invite understanding from people without expert knowledge, and seem to hold traces of secrecy, but it is apparent that these marks show the results of the thought processes of these researchers, attempting to unveil and universalize secret truths. Used in the fields of science and mathematics, the blackboard is an important foundation strongly tied to their methods and procedures.
