In the Meiji period, various types of sword fittings were produced and were known for its beautiful and intricate ornamentation. Sword fittings were especially valued during the Meiji period when the craftsmanship of metalwork were at their peak. The skilled craftsmen created highly expressionistic reliefs and paintings on the fittings. However, with the decline of the Meiji period, the swords' values were also lost.
This exhibition features selected masterpieces that have been preserved after their final chapter in history.
