This event has ended.

In recent years exhibitions using machiya rowhouses and Japanese-style rooms have tended to emphasize community-building and the use of empty houses. This exhibition, however, is organized purely from the standpoint of artistic display, rather than the repurposing of such locations. Curators Naoki Hida and Toshiaki Sakai strive to make the space express the ideas of artists of the same generation while building new relationships. The entire spaces is the result of trial and error by the curators and artists, who through exchanges with each other have produced diverse artworks and techniques for exhibiting their creations in the same space. The theme of Part 1 is “Birth— Individual Co-Performances and Relativity,” while Part 2 explores “Co-creation— the Journey to Transformation and Evolution.” Interchanging artwork with animate life, it creates an ecosystem that changes in synch with time.
