This event has ended.

Kyoto’s orderly grid structure was built at the beginning of the Heian era and remains to this day. This cultural metropolis with its simultaneously contrasting cultures of past and present, revealed in its intersecting streets are what gives Kyoto its unique sense of beauty. Contrasting from the tranquility of Kyoto, hotels are bustling hubs of activity. It is this contrast of stillness and activity, new and old that is embodied in the current Tumbleweed exhibition, titled Tsumuji (“Crossroads”). Crossroads are places of encounters, of interactions. The exhibition space is a surrogate crossroad; a place where seemingly isolated works in varying media, materials and concepts can interact and resonate with the visitor and with one another.
In December 2013 Kaori Nakajima started curating the Tumbleweed exhibition series in Munich where she is based. The exhibitions feature artists who use a wide range of media. The tumbleweed is a feature of western films, the weed that grows in size as it rolls along the ground. The lightness and flexibility of the tumbleweed completes the symbolism for the exhibition series; the interplay of various media creating and researching new possibilities in Art.

Exhibiting Artists: Martin Hast, Satoko Kako, Jun Konishi, Stefan Marx, Kaori Nakajima, Kärt Ojavee, Aiko Okamoto, Mirei Takeuchi, and Tim Wolff.
