Rediscovery— A Legacy of Railway Infrastructure
Lixil Gallery Osaka
This event has ended.
Japan’s first railway officially opened in 1872. A nationwide network of railroad lines existing mainly for logistics purposes developed thereafter. Overcoming a variety of geographic obstacles, innovation technology allowed for rails passing through mountain tunnels, over river bridges, and via other “roadless places.” This exhibition offers an overview of Japan’s network of railways, introducing 14 sites finding new value as the ruins of railroad infrastructure even after being decommissioned.
