Julio González Retrospective: Master of Iron Sculpture
Mie Prefectural Art Museum
This event has ended.
Julio González (1876-1942) a sculpturer born in Barcelona, Spain, continues to be greatly respected for his pioneering experiments in iron sculpture. By applying the technique of welding to sculpture, González paved the way for many important sculptors who followed him such as David Smith, Anthony Caro, and Edu-ardo Chillida. He had a decisive influence on twentieth century sculpture comparable to that of Brancusi and Giacometti. This exhibition, the first systematic presentation of the work of Julio González in Japan, contains approximately 100 items, including examples of his metalwork and early sculptures produced in the 1910s.
