This event has ended.

Exploring his shift from representational painting to abstractionism, this exhibition spotlights the many creative pursuits of Jiro Yoshihara, who remained on the cutting edge of artistic expression throughout his life. He attracted a diverse international following through stimulating correspondence with people all over the world, while at the same time taking an introspective approach to painting. Gutai Group research materials donated to the Osaka Municipal Museum of Fine Art, including documents from Yoshihara’s archives, magazines articles about the movement, and letters are among the displays. Photography and video of Yoshihara’s stage performances and outdoor installations, which until now have not had much representation in his retrospectives, are also featured.
