Artist’s statement: I suffered cerebral infarction fourteen years ago, and after a month of coma, miraculously came to my life again. Aphasia and right-handedness became inconvenient, but I was advised by a doctor “You should have some hobby” for rehabilitation, and this is a reason I got a camera and started shooting. At the beginning, I was shooting quiet photos such as autumn leaves and Buddha statues, but I was gradually fascinated by Yosakoi, which is a unique style of dance that originated in Japan. I have visited various places of the Yosakoi Tournament and took pictures. By continuing to encounter the momentum of the dancers, now my body has recovered well. I am happy if you could receive the power by feeling the vigorous movement and breath of Yosakoi and the dancers’ sense of exaltation.
