On the Way to the Future: 12 Newcomers of Art, Craft and Design

Gathering young creators in their 20s and 30s from around Kyoto and the wider Kansai district, this exhibition features 12 representatives of the next generation in art, craft and design. These artists have just set out on their professional careers after graduating from university, yet with the current state of the local art market and art criticism one might say there is much still wanting in the environment which they undertake their creative practice. In such a case what role can the art university play in professional development?
This exhibition is not merely a chance for young artists to expose their work but is also a chance to gain critical feedback from their audience, with visitors being encouraged to offer their opinion in the creation of a discursive space which will foster the growth and solidification of ideas in these 12 artists who will go on to create the future of art.
